90 percent of Air India employees agrees to the new compensation package

Air India pilots had written to Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, requesting his intervention over the airline's revised terms and conditions of service.

According to Campbell Wilson, the CEO of Air India, most of the airline's pilots and cabin crew have accepted the company's new compensation package, which will take effect on April 1, 2023.

The internal note said, “I’m pleased to report that 90 percent of cabin crew and a majority of pilots have received and accepted the new compensation package offered last week, which will be backdated to 1 April 2023,”

In a letter sent to Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, around 1,500 Air India pilots asked for his intervention over the airline's proposed revised terms and conditions. Earlier this week, the airline announced a new salary structure for its pilots and cabin crew, but the staff was unhappy with the changes, particularly the promotion of captains.

In response to the revised compensation package, the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) and the Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) sent legal notices to Air India on April 21. Air India's implementation team will continue to resolve queries regarding crew fatigue and roster instability in the coming weeks, Wilson said.

In an effort to resolve rising tensions between the airline's staff and management, a town hall meeting was held on April 25. Over 1,000 pilots were also to be hired by Air India on April 27.
